Volunteer Opportunities at the VA Hospital!
If you have the time.
You may serve the VA hospital in a full time or part time position. The hospital needs all volunteers from telephone reminders to drivers. No position is too small. Please contact Ray Lopez or visit the VAVS hospital web site for information on how to volunteer. You may also contact Belinda Karabatsos Manager, Voluntary Service Office (801) 584-1241.
Thank You or Christmas Cards.
The Veterans Affairs are looking for Thank You notes or Christmas cards from children to a vet in need. These are always a welcome sight to someone passing the days in the hospital. Your CCD classes would be the perfect place to get them.
Rules for cards are:
FIRST NAMES ONLY. No last names or any other contact information please. The safety of the children is in mind.
NO GLITTER it could interfere with medical equipment.
If you want the cards to be Christmas card this year they must be to me no later than Dec. 14th so I can get them to the VA.
Lap Blankets.
The VA gives lap blankets to the Vets who stay at the hospital as a small gift. It is a nice home touch while they are there. They are always in a need of replacing blankets given away. If you are organizing a drive or sewing project all they ask is the blankets are 3ft X 5ft with no fringe so they do not interfere with wheelchair operations.
More opportunities to visit our vets:
On occasion we are called to deliver gifts to our veterans. These occasions are usually around Christmas, Veteran's Day, Flag Day and Valentines Day. Please contact your Grand Knight or Faithful Navigator for more information.
Note to anyone who volunteers:
If you participate in any event, color guard, or simply shaking hands please forward a list of everyone who helped and hours spent. It does not matter if they are a Knight or not. The Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services (VAVS) want to make sure we get credit for all hours served. This is valuable information not only to the Knights, but to VAVS.
Thank you,
