This Year's Poster Contest Winner!

Dear Brother Knights:

Utah State Deputy, Charles Dover (Taylorsville); Utah State Advocate & Programs Director, Ray Folks (Elks Ridge); and District Deputy/District #1, Ed Burns (Pleasant View) attended Holy Mass this evening at Holy Family CC in South Ogden, UT. These dedicated men traveled to So. Ogden for one purpose...to put a big smile on the face of a very special young woman.

Marcelina Kubica

In January, Marcelina Kubica (pronounced koo beets' ah), a 7th grade honor student at Ogden Preparatory Academy in Ogden and the CRE Program at Holy Pamily Parish, submitted a poster in KofC Council #14399's Substance Abuse Poster Contest. Ms. Kubica won 1st Place in her age group for the Alcohol Abuse Division. Her poster was submitted to the Utah State Substance Abuse Poster Contest and, again, won 1st Place. Marcelina's poster is now in New Haven, CT where it will be judged at the International Level. Winners will be announced in May and posted on www.KofC.org.

In addition to her ability to create effective poster art, Marcelina is an accomplished musician (piano & violin). She loves to learn languages, she is a Girl Scout, an Alter Server, a liturgical reader and was recently elected to the office of Secretary for the Holy Family Youth Group. Marcelina is the daughter of Kris & Anna Kubica of So. Ogden, UT. Kris is an electrical engineer and a 3rd Degree Knight in Council #14399. Anna is a Registered Nurse.

Ed Burns, District Deputy of District #1, thanked Fr. Patrick Elliott, Pastor of Holy Family, for the opportunity to honor a deserving parishioner and then introduced the visiting Utah Sate KofC officers.

In his remarks to the congregation, State Deputy, Charles Dover, thanked Fr. Elliott for his excellent support of he KofC, and he recognized him for his 50 years of knighthood. Mr. Dover also thanked the brothers of Council #14399 for supporting the youth of Holy Family Parish. "The youth are the future...", he said, "...helping them grow and develop their Christian faith and core values is the most important work we do."

State Advocate and Programs Director, Ray Folks, made the presentation of a placque and a $50 check to the smiling Ms. Kubica and the congregation gave Marcelina a well-deserved round of applause.
